Merrill Kelly has an estimated 8 years of major league service time — 8.000 in the notation clubs use, from 1376 days credited on a major league roster.
| Season | Club | Days | Running total | How this season is known |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 1.000 | Carried forward |
| 2020 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 2.000 | From transactions |
| 2021 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 3.000 | From transactions |
| 2022 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 4.000 | Carried forward |
| 2023 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 5.000 | From transactions |
| 2024 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 6.000 | From transactions |
| 2025 | Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers | 172 | 7.000 | From transactions |
| 2026 | Arizona Diamondbacks | 172 | 8.000 | From transactions |
172 days credit a full year, so a season adds at most 1.000 no matter how long a player is on a roster. 3.000 years reaches salary arbitration and 6.000 reaches free agency —
what every threshold unlocks.
